Alright, so mostly everyone is saying that they don't start up conversation with someone because they either don't know what to say to them (because they don't know them) or because they're afraid of being rejected.
On the note of being rejected, what do you think makes people feel this way? Do you feel that you're not cool enough to talk to the person?
What if you were paired up with someone to work on a class project that you didn't know at all. Would you try to work together or just split the project up? Why?

sometimes i think the thought of rejection is just a reflection of a past event. maybe someones been rejected a lot.
i would split up the project. i never think people can work to my standards. usually i pass out research and i keep the detailing and putting together to myself. and more often than not, ill follow up on their research.
side note: walking up to someone and talking to them all depends on the person....
im a REALLY good judge of character, in my opinion. so i can spot out people who feel uncomfortable/questionable about whatever and try to help them not be so anxious, simultaneously dealing with my anxiety as well.
as for the project, id work together. splitting it up is only going to make the OTHER person feel rejected and worse, and it wont help them with their intra personal skills. thats all it actually is, really. people just dont know how to spark up conversation.
plus, were lazy. we dont take the initiative. i mean, we dont ask someone random "hey howre you, like really, no deflection, how are you?" because were too lazy.. we have better things to do than hear about peoples personal lives.
in the same thought, we dont know that person. so we dont know howre they going to react and the unknown has always been a problem, because then it brings up questions. and when you have questions, you usually analyze the questions and put them into 'play' so to speak. then youll come up with all these different situations because you over analyze and you discourage yourself from even going up to someone in the first place.
